Gin, Campari and sweet vermouth in equal measure, stirred, over ice, with orange. It is the most gin-forward classic there is, which makes it a good test of a bottle.
You need
Serves one
- 30ml gin
- 30ml Campari
- 30ml sweet vermouth
- A wide strip of orange peel
Method
- Stir all three with ice in a mixing glass until properly cold.
- Strain over a large cube in a rocks glass.
- Express the orange peel over the surface and drop it in.
Our suggestion: a coastal or maritime gin changes this drink more than any other classic — the salinity cuts the bitterness and it comes out drier. Worth trying before you decide the Negroni is not for you.
